Five associative organizations in the field of heritage, culture and tourism launched the strategic project EXPOMÉDIATOUR in May of 2000. They include the Regroupement des organismes du patrimoine franco-ontarien (ROPFO), the Assemblée des centres culturels de l'Ontario (ACCO), the Ontario Museum Association (OMA), the Centre franco-ontarien de folklore (CFOF) and the Fédération des aînés et retraités francophones de l'Ontario (FAFO). Partners from the private and government sectors gave financial contributions that are for the implementation of training activities, establishing community and virtual exhibitions as well as Intranet and Internet networking among participants from all regions of Ontario, which allows accessibility of products and services to a larger public of Francophone and Francophile visitors and tourists.

The goal of the project is to instigate and develop interest for promotion, protection and transmission of cultural and natural heritage in Francophone communities. The four strands of Expomédiatour that include 1) the development of regional abilities of young interns and volunteers; 2) the creation of community exhibitions; 3) the creation of virtual exhibitions of heritage and 4) an Intranet and Internet connection between different communities and publics, are linked to regional tourism itineraries accessible at francoroute.on.ca.
